The Hybrid Interactive Intelligence (HII) Lab at Duke Kunshan University welcomes undergraduate research students, research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, and academic or industry collaborators who are interested in advancing research on human-centered AI, digital mental well-being, creative and generative AI, and interactive intelligent systems.

Our lab values interdisciplinary perspectives and works at the intersection of computer science, human–computer interaction, psychology, design, and the creative arts. We are particularly interested in collaborations that explore how AI systems can be designed to work with people in ways that are ethical, reflective, and experientially meaningful.

Opportunities

🎓 Undergraduate & Graduate Students

We regularly supervise undergraduate research students through formal research programs and independent study projects. Students gain hands-on experience in:

  • Designing and prototyping interactive AI systems
  • Conducting user studies and mixed-methods research
  • Exploring applications in mental well-being, creativity, sports, and games

Motivated students with backgrounds in computer science, data science, psychology, design, or related fields are encouraged to reach out.

🧑‍💻 Research Assistants & Postdoctoral Fellows

We are currently seeking research assistants and postdoctoral fellows at Duke Kunshan University. Successful candidates will work closely with ongoing projects in human-centered AI and interactive systems, with opportunities to:

  • Lead system design and empirical studies
  • Publish in top-tier venues (e.g., CHI, CSCW, IUI, CogSci)
  • Collaborate with international academic partners

🎓 Ph.D. Opportunities

We also welcome prospective Ph.D. students through joint supervision opportunities with:

  • Hong Kong Baptist University
  • KU Leuven

Ph.D. students will be embedded in an international research network and are expected to pursue independent, high-impact research aligned with the lab’s core themes.

How to Reach Out

If you are interested in working with the HII Lab, please email Prof. Yucheng Jin with:

  • Your CV
  • A brief research statement (1 page) outlining your interests, background, and potential research directions

Please indicate the position you are interested in (e.g., undergraduate researcher, research assistant, postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D. applicant) in your email subject line.

We look forward to connecting with researchers and students who are passionate about shaping the future of human-centered and interactive AI.
